About Parenting Coordination
Up to 25% of
divorces result in high conflict during the first two years following the
divorce, and up to 15% of families of divorce continue to experience high
conflict for several years. Exposure to high levels of interparental conflict
has been the strongest predictor of child maladjustment after divorce.
Litigation, mediation, and counseling have all been found to have limited
impact in high-conflict cases.
Parenting Coordination began in the 1990's and has been utilized extensively in
Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Massachusettes, Oklahoma,
Oregon, Vermont, Hawaii, Idaho, and New Mexico. The first training for
Parenting Coordination held in Indiana was in 2006. The goal of Parenting
Coordination is to manage conflict in the best interest of the children,
parents, and the court.
